CREATIVES
WE LOVE
Melissa Bon
You move between Geneva and Paris but write/sing in English - do you find there is a different way of expressing yourself in these different places and languages? Where do you draw inspiration from for your work?

My musical background is 99% English speaking artists, it felt natural for me to write in English too. There is definitely a different sound when I sing in French, it shows another dimension of my voice and even the energy around it. I think I was more scared releasing a song in French because I find the process of writing in French more challenging when it’s the language you speak everyday, maybe because I’m scared we’ll understand what I’m talking about better? My inspiration until now is very much driven by life experiences, also I am extremely sensitive and I feel like my body almost forces me to write down things when something needs to be said in order to process my feelings. It’s my therapy.

Where do you find the strongest synergy between fashion and music?

I think through live performances.. I feel like it’s the place where you wear the things that makes you feel your mostest. I have a « second skin » relationship to clothes and I really love exploring little details on my monochrome outfits that I wear on stage.

What empowers you personally & professionally?

I think that the moment I embraced who I was instead of trying to look or be different, thats when I started to feel the most empowered. When I stopped focusing on what I should be doing according to others and listened to my guts instead.

Please name three female creatives that inspires you and why (can be within music or beyond)

Sade for her strength, her talent and her grace. Solange for her vision, creativity, beauty and boldness.
Alicia Keys for her authenticity and how beautifully she spreads love through her music and personality.
